[ARCHIVED] Election Officials Remind Residents to Get Absentee Ballot Requests in Early

Pocatello

Officials charged with overseeing elections in Pocatello are advising residents to get their requests in for absentee ballots as soon as possible.

Due to the closure of the United States Postal Service’s Flandro Mail Processing Center in Pocatello, City Clerk Ruth Whitworth and the Bannock County Elections Office are urging residents to request absentee ballots ahead of the October 28, 2015 deadline.

“We have seen instances of mail being delayed. We feel that if a voter were to request a ballot on October 28 they would not be able to return it to the Bannock County Elections Office in time to be counted Tuesday, November 3,” said Pocatello City Clerk Ruth Whitworth. “Any ballot that is received after 8 p.m. on Election Day will not be counted.”

Voters may also hand-deliver their absentee ballots to the Elections Office located at the Bannock County Courthouse, Room 101. However, the absentee ballots must be sealed in the absentee envelope provided by Bannock County.
