Coaches, leaders, and mentors of all kinds constantly say it in one form or another, “practice makes perfect.” That’s why the City of Pocatello is joining with hundreds of other agencies and nearly 40 million people around the world in participating in the 2015 Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill. At 10:15 a.m. Thursday, October 15, 2015 the simulated earthquake will begin and all City employees at City Hall will be part of the mock evacuation drill. Because of the simulation, City Hall will be closed for roughly 10 minutes while the drill is being conducted and no citizens will be allowed in City Hall until the ShakeOut has ended. Citizens conducting business at the time of the drill will be escorted out of the building as if it were a real emergency and then all brought back in after the drill has ended. “The ShakeOut allows us a chance to go through the motions and see how a full scale evacuation of close to 200 employees at City Hall would look,” said Lt. Ian Nelson with the Pocatello Police Department. “Even if you are not part of the ShakeOut, now is a great time to review your own emergency plans and determine what you need to do to keep you and your family safe.” For more information on what to do in the event of an earthquake, visit ShakeOut.org.
