The new Pocatello Animal Shelter is about to get even better thanks to a $40,000 grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). Thursday night, the Pocatello City Council approved receiving the award which fully funds enlarging the kennels for small dogs and will pay for the construction of another “cat bowl” holding area. The money is also going towards purchasing $5,000 worth of supplies. “The enhancements to the kennels will help to make the dogs feel more secure and comfortable while they are at the shelter,” said Mary Remer, Animal Services Director for the City of Pocatello. “We are beyond grateful for this generous gift from the ASPCA. These additional features will be a wonderful addition to our facility and will help more animals find homes.” Construction is scheduled to begin later this year. This Saturday, Friends of the Pocatello Animal Shelter is hosting the 18th annual “Run with the Big Dogs” at the lower level of Ross Park. The race begins at 11 a.m. and participants can register all the way up to the start time. For more information you can visit Pocatello.us/animal.
