Pocatello is joining other members of the Cities Thrive Coalition in recognizing Mental Health Awareness Month.
At Thursday’s City Council meeting, Mayor Brian Blad will proclaim May 24 to be Mental Health Awareness Day in Pocatello, and the decree will be read by Council President Steve Brown. “Almost all Americans have been touched by mental illness, either directly or through someone we care about – regardless of geography, politics or economics,” the proclamation reads. “Mental illness disproportionately affects the most vulnerable in our cities - those living at the intersection of homelessness, poverty, and mental health.”
The Mayor is issuing the proclamation as a member of the Cities Thrive Coalition, and it will be accepted by Sunny Shaw, Executive Director of the Housing Authority of the City of Pocatello.
Thursday’s meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
