Fun and learning will soon collide at Raymond Park in Pocatello.
At Thursday’s Pocatello City Council meeting, the council approved a proposal by Portneuf Rotary Club to install a “Born Learning Trail” at the park. The path supports learning by featuring games and activities that help to boost a child’s language and literacy skills.
“Many children are entering Kindergarten below benchmark for literacy and a trail like this helps address the issue in a fun and engaging way” said John Banks, City of Pocatello Parks and Recreation Director. “We’d like to thank Portneuf Rotary Club for their generous donation that will be a valuable community asset for parents, caregivers, and most importantly children for years to come.”
The new path follows another successful “Born Learning Trail” at Sacajawea Park that was installed in 2010. The construction will be funded by a grant through the Rotary organization and assistance from United Way. The trail will be installed and maintained by volunteers. There will be no fiscal impact to the city.
