City of Pocatello Job Application Process

The City of Pocatello only accepts electronic applications. The City of Pocatello will not accept any hard-copy applications, resumes, or cover letters. Applications may be rejected if the documents required in the job posting are not attached.

All City jobs are posted in the CivicHR program. To best avoid problems with uploading required application documents, applicants should convert documents to a .pdf file. Additionally, applicants should apply only from a PC and not use a cell phone or tablet as these are not compatible with the application system.

All new hires are subject to background screening prior to hire. All job offers are contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.

All positions in the Pocatello Police Department prohibit illegal drug use in the last three (3) years. This includes the use of drugs that may be legal in other states.

Public Safety

The City’s Police and Fire Department conduct testing to develop lists for future hires.

  • Pocatello Police Department: Testing occurs intermittently throughout the year as the need arises or if the current eligible register has been exhausted. Applicants will be given at least 21 days’ notice before the exam to prepare. The Pocatello Police Department accepts Lateral Police and Lateral Dispatch applications year round.
  • Pocatello Fire Department: Testing occurs in January of every year with the application opening mid-November prior to each exam. The Fire Department follows the established Civil Service Rules.
