Pocatello Fire Department Applications and Permits
Burning Permits
Open burning in Pocatello requires a burning permit except when cooking or warming fires. Burn permits may be submitted online or acquired at Fire Station #1 located at 408 E Whitman in Pocatello.

Solid Fuel Burning Appliance
- $50 – Installation or inspection of existing appliances
- Installation of Solid Fuel-Burning Appliances Application (PDF)
Underground Storage Tank
- $60 – Inspection of residential fuel/oil tank (installation, removal, or abandon in place)
- $150 – Inspection of commercial fuel/oil tank or other hazardous materials tank (installation or removal)

- Abandonment of a Residential Underground Fuel Storage Tank Application (PDF)
Flow Testing
- $60 – Water supply (hydrant flow) testing
- $100 – Private hydrant system (per hydrant)
Fireworks
- $60 – Permit for retail sale of “safe and sane” fireworks and inspection of firework stand (PDF)
- $125 – Public fireworks display
Flammable & Combustible Materials Storage Tanks
- $150 – Installation, Modification or Removal of Hazardous Material/Fuel Storage Tank Application (PDF)
Aircraft Refueling
- $125 (annual fee) – Permit for the operation of aircraft refueling vehicles for one year, application required (Vendor Permit and Inspection)
- $25 (annual fee) – Aircraft refueling certification for one year, application required (Individual Operator Certification)
Life Safety Systems
INSTALLATION OR MODIFICATION
- $100 – Installation or Modification of Commercial Kitchen Suppression System Application (PDF)
- $50 to $250 – Installation or Modification of Fire Alarm System Application (PDF)
- $100 – Installation or Modification of Private Service Main or Hydrant System Application (PDF)
- $100 – Installation or Modification of Fire Sprinkler Application (PDF)
- $100 – Installation or Modification of Special Hazard System Application (PDF)
BUSINESS AND TECHNICIANS
- Life Safety Systems Annual Business Permit Application (PDF) – $80 per discipline (discipline includes Fire Extinguisher, Kitchen Hood, Fire Alarm and Sprinkler System)
- Life Safety Systems Annual Technician Permit Application (PDF) – $20 per discipline (discipline includes Fire Extinguisher, Kitchen Hood, Fire Alarm and Fire Sprinkler System)
- Life Safety System Installer/Technician Exam – $15

Fire Department Construction Permit
- Construction Plan Review and Inspection Fee
- Commercial – 16% of building permit fee
- Residential – 8% of building permit fee
- Sprinkler System Permit Fees – $150 base fee plus $2.00 per head, Fire Sprinkler, Standpipe and Fire Pump System (plan review and installation inspection)
- Fire Alarm Permit and Plan Review Fee – $100 base fee plus $4.00 per device
- Hood Plan Review and Inspection Fee – $100 Commercial Kitchen Hood Extinguishing System (plan review and inspection)
- Additional Inspection – $40 per visit for any construction permits requiring more than two inspections
- $140 – First hour of after-hours inspection
- $70 – Each additional hour of an after-hours inspection
- After-hours inspections, if available, are between 5 PM and 8 AM and on weekends
- Special Hazard Plan Review – $100
- Detonation of Explosives Permit – $150
False Alarms
False alarms within a 6-month consecutive period (business owner responsible)- 1st and 2nd false alarms – $0.00
- 3rd false alarm – Warning Letter
- 4th false alarm – $150.00
- 5th and subsequent false alarms – $300.00
A 3% convenience fee will be charged on all card transactions.
